The growth process of paper cup history has gone through four stages:
1.Cone paper cup
Conical / folding paper cups The original paper cups are conical, made by hand, bonded by glue, more easily separated, and must be used as soon as possible. Later, the folding paper cups were folded on the side wall to increase the strength of the side wall and the durability of the paper cups, but it was difficult to print patterns on these folding surfaces, and the effect was not ideal.
2.Coat wax paper cup
In 1932, only two pieces of wax paper cups appeared, its smooth surface can be printed with a variety of exquisite patterns, to improve the promotional effect. The wax, on the one hand, can avoid direct contact with the paper, and can protect the adhesive of the glue and enhance the durability of the paper cup; on the other hand, it also increases the thickness of the side wall to increase the strength of the paper cup, thus reducing the amount of paper necessary for the manufacture of stronger paper cups and reducing the production cost. As wax paper cups become containers for cold drinks, it is also hoped that a convenient vessel can carry hot drinks. However, hot drinks will melt the wax layer on the inner surface of the paper cup, and the adhesive mouth will be separated, so the general wax paper cup is not suitable for carrying hot drinks.
3.Straight wall double-layer cup
In order to expand the application range of paper cups, straight wall double paper cups were introduced to the market in 1940. The paper cups are not only easy to carry, but also useful to hold hot drinks. Later, the manufacturer coated the latex on these cups to cover the “cardboard taste” of the paper material, and strengthen the leakage resistance of the paper cup. Single-layer wax cups treated with latex coating are widely used in self-service vending machines to hold hot coffee.
4.Apply a plastic paper cup
Some food companies began to put polyethylene on cardboard to increase the barrier and sealing of paper packaging. Since the melting point of polyethylene is significantly higher than that of wax, the new type of beverage paper cup coated with this material can be ideal used to carry heat drinks, which solves the problem of product quality affected by the melting of the coating material. At the same time, the polyethylene paint is smoother than the original wax paint, improving the appearance of the paper cup. In addition, its processing technology is also cheaper and faster than using the method of latex coating.
